BV NOTEBOOK - BV headlocks Duals opponents

STORM LAKE - Taylor Wood, Aaron Loewens and Pat Wilsbacher all won four matches apiece to help Buena Vista to four victories in the Buena Vista Duals wrestling tournament on Saturday at Siebens Center.

Buena Vista defeated Cornell 32-13, St. John's 32-15 and Briar Cliff 40-12 and tied with Dana 22-22, but was awarded the winner based on criteria G.

The Beavers are now 20-6 overall in duals for the season.

Wood won by major decision twice, by decision once and by pin in 4 minutes, 24 seconds at 141 pounds.

Loewens, who wrestles at 157 pounds, won by technical fall, by decision, by major decision and by pin in 1:40.

Wilsbacher, who wrestles at 165, won his matches by technical fall, by decision, by pin in 2:40 and by pin in 1:45.

Dax Doran won all three of his matches by pin at heavyweight. He won in times of 4:13, 2:41 and 2:03.

Mike Hohenstein also won three matches - by forfeit, by decision and by major decision at 133 pounds.

Alex Brandenburg, Adam Buthe and George Gerdes all won two matches apiece. Brandenburg was a winner by forfeit twice at 149 pounds, while Buthe prevailed by decision and by forfeit at 184.

Gerdes, who wrestles at 174, won both of his matches by decision.

Buena Vista wrestles No. 2-ranked Wartburg College on Wednesday night at Siebens Center, beginning at 7 p.m.

Swimming

The Buena Vista women's team placed third in the Eureka Invitational on Saturday.

Lincoln College was the winner with 316 points. Webster University took second with 193. Buena Vista scored 190.

Sara Becker finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 23.01 seconds. Jaime Soczek was 12th in a clocking of 3:16.27.

Amy Brown captured the 200 breast stroke with a time of 2:46.31. Buena Vista's 400 freestyle relay team placed first with a time of 4:05.79.

Kelsey Stribe placed second in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:07.91. Steph Fogleman was fifth in a clocking of 1:14.95.

Lydia Van Horn finished third in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:19.17. Becker placed fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:09.27.

Stribe finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:33.42. Van Horn placed third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:03.66, while Liza Radke was eighth in a clocking of 6:55.

Brown placed fourth in the 100 breast stroke in 1:16.66, while Mandy Peter was ninth in a time of 1:24.60.

In the 50 freestyle, Erin Fitzgerald placed fourth with a time of 27.33 seconds. Fogleman was 10th in 29.51 seconds. Fitzgerald placed sixth in the 100 freestyle in 1:02.98, while Trisha Chamberlain was 13th in a clocking of 1:16.19.

Peter finished sixth in the 200 freestyle in 2:26.36. Chamberlain was 10th in a time of 2:42.85.

The Buena Vista men's team placed sixth with 27 points. Lincoln College finished first in the meet.

John Roberts placed fifth in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:11.69. Jeremy Cook was eighth in the 200 freestyle in 2:25.6.

Roberts placed ninth in the 50 freestyle in 30.67 seconds, while Cook was 10th in 30.73 seconds.

Cook placed 10th in the 100 freestyle in a clocking of 1:05.51 and Roberts was 11th with a time of 1:10.80.

Indoor Track and Field

The Buena Vista women's team finished third out of 14 teams with 75 points and the men's squad placed 10th out of 13 teams with 18 points at the Gustavus Adolphus Invitational last Friday.
