BVU leader resigns, to take on presidency at Northland

Tuesday, February 5, 2002

Karen Halbersleben has announced her resignation from Buena Vista University at the end of the spring semester to become president of Northland College in Ashland, Wisc.

Halbersleben has been vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at BVU. For the past four years, she has led the BVU faculty in sweeping revisions to the curriculum and has played a key role in collaboration with faculty to implement a technological transformation in university academic programs.

She has also been instrumental in enhancing the role of Buena Vista University students outside the classroom, and extending connections between the campus and the rest of the world, according to BVU President Fred Moore.

As president of Northland, Halbersleben will be taking over one of the nation's leading environmental liberal arts colleges. Ashland is located on the shores of Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay. Northland enrolls approximately 800 students from 48 states and a dozen foreign countries.
