Mahr named to North-western Dean's List

Amanda Beth Mahr of Alta was named to the fall semester Dean's List at Northwestern College in Saint Paul, Minn. The dean's list includes full-time students with a grade point average during that semester of 3.65 or higher. Mahr is a Communication Arts/Literature Ed major at Northwestern.

Local students inducted into UNI Kappa Delta Pi

The University of Northern Iowa's Psi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in education recently inducted 93 education majors into its membership, including Jill Angela French of Alta, Wane A. Miller of Aurelia, Dawn Michelle Johnson of Holstein and Michelle Ann Ackerman of Storm Lake.

Aurelia Early Childhood Assessment deadline

Parents in the Aurelia School District that have children born before Sept. 15, 1997, are asked to contact the office of the Elementary Principal by no later than Friday, Feb. 22. It is important that notice be given at the school now so that specific plans may be made for the 2002-03 school year.

Early Childhood Assessment will be held on Friday, March 8. Testing times will be scheduled when you contact the office and will be set for either the a.m. or p.m. on a first-come basis. During this appointment, children and their parents will have an opportunity to visit the kindergarten room, visit with the teachers, Mrs. Wilkinson and Mrs. Rohwer, and have various assessments.

Children must be five years of age on or before Sept. 15 in order to be eligible to enter the programs this fall.

Richardson studying abroad in London

Central College senior Wendy Richardson is studying abroad in London, England, during the spring semester. Richardson, a communication major, will be enrolled at the University of North London. Richardson is the daughter of Anthony and Susan Richardson and a 1998 graduate of Storm Lake High School.

Students such as Richardson will have the opportunity to experience working as a Parliament intern, exploring British theatre or Stonehenge.

Richardson was also named to the fall Dean's List at Central.

Local students earn degrees at UNI

Five local students were added to the roster of graduates of the University of Northern Iowa in December.

Storm Lake natives Steven Erickson (Accounting), Lisa Howie (Elementary Education) and Jill Zevenbergen (Bachelor of Fine Arts) all earned bachelor degrees, while Ryan Hartwig of Storm Lake earned a master's in education. Zevenbergen graduated with high honors.
