Thursday, January 31, 2002

Storm Lake Police believe they have uncovered one of the most-talked-about crimes of the new millennium - identity theft.

A Storm Lake man told police that he believed another man was using his identity in dealings in Storm Lake.

Based on information gathered Tuesday, officers arrested Luis Alberto Nolasco, 34, of Storm Lake. Police charged Nolasco with Identity Theft.

He was booked into the county jail on $6,500 cash bond.

Further investigation led police to believe that the suspect bought the identification from Sue Ramirez Perez, 41, of Storm Lake. Perez is the mother of the identity theft victim. She is reported to have sold her son's birth certificate to Nolasco.

Storm Lake Police arrested Perez on Tuesday and charged her with Aiding and Abetting Identity Theft. She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on $6,500 cash bond.
