Top-ranked Knights top St. Mary's

POMEROY - Nick Ford poured in 26 points as top-ranked Pomeroy-Palmer cruised past Storm Lake St. Mary's 83-36 in Northwest Conference play on Tuesday.

Pomeroy-Palmer led 18-6 after the first quarter, 39-16 at halftime and 63-26 heading into the fourth period.

Chris Hanssen scored 13 points for the Knights, while Alex Poppen added 10.

Kyle Drey scored 12 points to lead St. Mary's, now 4-8 in the league and 5-9 overall. Eric Wordekemper and Tim Brown each had six points.

Drey pulled down six rebounds, while Wordekemper collected five. Billy Mach charted three assists and Joe Fitzgerald had one steal.

St. Mary's made 16 of 50 field goals for 32 percent. The Knights were 33 of 65 from the field for 49 percent.

"We didn't handle the pressure well," St. Mary's coach Phil Skamser said. "Our turnovers really cost us and you can't do that against a quality team."
