SL wrestlers drop pair of duals to MOC-Floyd Valley, Woodbury Central

Thursday, January 24, 2002

ORANGE CITY - It's tough to forfeit at four weight classes and still win dual wrestling meets.

Storm Lake had to endure that again on Tuesday night as Woodbury Central and MOC-Floyd Valley defeated the Tornadoes in a double dual at Orange City. Woodbury Central won 48-30 and MOC-Floyd Valley triumphed 45-24.

"Like I have said before, it is just tough to give up 24 points and win dual meets," Storm Lake coach Ty Seaman said. "Hopefully, we will get a couple of kids back in the lineup next week and that will help."

Storm Lake won two matches by decision, three by pin, and one by forfeit. Justin Koeppe won by decision 9-7 at 140 pounds and Jake Droessler posted an 11-4 win at 275 pounds.

Tyler Nichols pinned his opponent in 1 minute, 52 seconds at 103, while Marc Wiley stuck his opponent in 4:38 at 112. Pete Harder pinned his opponent in 4:30 at 135 pounds. Brian Maxson won by forfeit at 125.

Storm Lake won two matches by decision, one by pin and two by forfeit against MOC-Floyd Valley. Maxson pinned his opponent in 2:37 at 125. Nick Wiley posted a 7-2 win by decision at 119 pounds. Mike Miller shut out his opponent in a 5-0 victory at 160 pounds. Nichols and Harder won by forfeit at 103 and 135, respectively.

"Overall, not a bad performance," Seaman said. "We were a little flat and sloppy in the first meet. We had some kids like Brian Maxson and Justin Koeppe who maybe wrestled their matches of the year. We also had some kids really gut it out in the second dual with come-from-behind wins and we won the close matches."

Storm Lake wrestles in the Lakes Conference tournament on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.
