Margery Sleezer

Margery M. Sleezer, 80, of rural Aurelia, passed away Tuesday, January 22, at 9 p.m., at her farm home following an eight month illness.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, at 10:30 a.m., at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, with Reverend Jay Reiff and Reverend Ray Kruger officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Aurelia. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. at the Church on Saturday. Visitation will be on Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. There will be a Pythian Sister service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Margery was born February 9, 1921 on a farm near Washta, to Harlow and Helen (Williams) Fogleman. She attended country school and graduated from Cherokee Wilson High School. She grew up on a farm northwest of Cherokee where she lived until 1937 when the family moved into Cherokee. She worked at Karlson and Betsworth Plumbing in Cherokee until her marriage. She was united in marriage to Dale Sleezer Sr. on January 5, 1942 at her grandmother William's home in Cherokee. To this union two daughters and two sons were born. She was an avid homemaker whose hard work and dedication made the family farm what it is today. She loved working with livestock and helping in the fields as well as being a terrific cook. She was a faithful loving wife, and mother who enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and will be remembered by many for her potato salad and homemade pies. Margery was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Sermons Ala Carte and the Funeral Committee. She was also an active member of the Pythian Sisters in Aurelia serving as Secretary for many years. She had been active in the Cherokee Saddle Club and was over a 50 year member of the Friendship Club of Aurelia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and his wife Kenneth and Mae Fogleman and a sister-in-law Frances Sleezer.

She is survived by her husband Dale Sr. of Aurelia; two daughters Pat and Dr. James R. Johansen of Cherokee, Janet and David Sullivan of Aurelia; two sons, Butch (Dale Jr.) and Bonnie Sleezer of Aurelia, Robert and Diane Sleezer of Aurelia; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Glenn Sleezer and his wife Annabelle of San Rafael, CA.; along with four nieces and two nephews and many relatives and friends.
