On January 11, at 8:08 a.m., an accident occurred in the intersection of West 5th Street and West Railroad Street. A 1994 BMW, driven by Kolin Brighton, 17, 1707 West Milwaukee Avenue, was traveling eastbound on West 5th Street. A 1983 Ford, driven by Martha Flores, 38, 227 Oneida Street, traveling westbound on West Railroad Street, stopped at the stop sign, then entered the intersection, striking the Brighton vehicle, then left the scene. Reyes was charged with Fail To Obey Stop Sign, No Valid Drivers License, and No Insurance. Damage was estimated at $1200 to the Brighton vehicle and $800 to the Flores vehicle.
On January 9, at 2:50 p.m., an accident occurred in the city parking lot at Geneseo Street and West 6th Street. A 1987 Buick, driven by Roxanne Ambriz, 25, 215 West 6th Street, pulled into the parking lot from Geneseo Street, went over a curb, and struck a parked 1998 Buick, owned by Lela Koth, 816 Northwestern Drive. The Koth vehicle was pushed into a parked 1990 Ford, owned by James Keefe, Early. Then the Ambriz vehicle accelerated to back up, striking a parked 1998 Isuzu, owned by Great Plains Locating Service, Omaha, NE. The Ambriz vehicle then left the scene. Ambriz was charged with Striking Unattended Vehicle, No Drivers License, and No Insurance. Damage was estimated at $2,400 to the Ambriz vehicle, $3000 to the Koth vehicle, $400 to the Keefe vehicle, and $2300 to the Great Plains Locating Service vehicle.
On January 11, Ben Lickteig, Algona, reported the passenger side mirror broken off and the antenna of his vehicle damaged while parked in the Buena Vista University main parking lot, 610 West 4th Street, sometime between January 8 and January 11. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $200.
On January 11, James Bird, Des Moines, reported two fog lamps broken off and the antenna of his vehicle damaged while parked in the Buena Vista University main parking lot, 610 West 4th Street, sometime between January 8 and January 10. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $200.
On January 11, an employee of Pizza Hut, 115 East Milwaukee Avenue, reported a magneto sign stolen from a delivery vehicle, while parked in the 300 block of Grand Avenue. Value of the sign was estimated at $95.
On January 9, the owner of Bob's Garage, 1309 East Lakeshore Drive, reported the theft of two hubcaps from a truck parked in the parking lot. Estimated value of the hubcaps is $60.
On January 7, an employee of McDonald's, 1501 Lake Avenue, reported a burglary at the business. Entry was gained by breaking a window in a door. Damage to the window and door was estimated at $200. Taken from the business was $343 in cash and $365 in gift certificates.
