Witter Gallery hosts special event for Freedom Quilters

Monday, January 21, 2002

On Saturday, January 26, at 2 - 4 p.m., the Witter Gallery will host a Special Recognition Reception for our local "Freedom Quilters."

Betty Nielson of Varina has been interviewed on national news as the organizer of this amazing group. Her personal response to the devastating attacks of September 11, was a goal of presenting every victim's family with a comforting, handmade quilt. She has received tremendous local support and was able to deliver several thousand quilts to New York City before Christmas. Mrs. Nielson and her Army volunteers aren't finished yet and will continue to work their goal is met.

"Vern Varenhorst is the sponsor and special host of this event. This reception is a wonderful opportunity for area residents to meet and honor the remarkable women and men who have worked so hard on this project," Gallary Director Joleen Dentlinger said.

The Witter Gallery is open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 1:30 - 4 p.m.; Thursday 1:30 - 7 p.m.; and Saturday 10 am-noon. Special arrangements may be made for group tours or classes. For more information about this exhibit or any Witter Gallery event, please call 712-732-3400.
