K of C free throw contest to be held

The Storm Lake Knights of Columbus are sponsoring their annual free throw contest on Sunday, January 27, at the St. Mary's High School gym.

The gym will be open at 12 noon for warm-ups and registration. Kids must be registered by 12:45 p.m. The contest will begin at 1 p.m.

This contest is open to all kids, ages 10 to 14, regardless of religious denomination. If you have any question, feel free to call John Murray at 732-8181.

Computer for Seniors to be offered

Senior Citizens can learn at a comfortable pace the basic of home computing at an upcoming evening. The ICCC Short Course is slated to start Friday, February 15. The class will be held from 1 - 4 p.m., for three consecutive Friday afternoon. Participants will become familiar with basic operations and care of a computer. The hands on class will cover beginning wordprocessing, internet and data base skills. Participants will create several documents and mailing labels. The cost is $48.

ICCC to offer ballroom dancing course

Learn how to Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing and Polka at an upcoming ICCC Ballroom Dancing short course. The class will be held from 6:30 - 9 p.m., for five consecutive Tuesday evenings starting January 22. The class will be held at the Storm Lake South School Elementary Gym. Instructors Dan and Brenda Anderson have ten years experience teaching dance lessons at the Larimar and Elks Ballrooms in Fort Dodge and the Bohemian Hall Ballroom in rural Webster County. Arts on Grand to offer clay class

On Tuesday, January 22 and Wednesday, January 23, Arts on Grand in Spencer will host a turn at the wheel adult or mature student clay class. Limit of four students to guarantee individual, quality instructor time (perfect for beginners). Learn the basics of hand building and how to throw on the wheel. Design and various art elements as well as finishing techniques will be discussed. Wear old clothes. The classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., both days.

Spot shot contest to be held at SLHS

The Iowa Park and Recreation Association Spot Shot contest will be held at Storm Lake High School on Sunday, February 3 at 2 p.m. Boys and Girls ages 8-13 compete in separate divisions for a chance to advance to the state level competition in Grinnell on March 16. Each participant will shoot two rounds from seven different spots on the floor for a total score. The top two finalists in each division will advance to Grinnell.the fee for the spot shot is $5. Registration forms are in the office at each Storm Lake School and they are also available at CommUNITY Education. You may also sign up at the gym on the 3rd.
