St. Mary's Schools plans to open a new preschool for the 2002-2003 school year, according to Elementary Principal Kathleen Hansen.
St. Mary's Schools will operate the preschool if enough community interest is generated.
Hansen explained the formulation of a preschool concept came from the school board's long-range planning process and surveying of prospective parents. The St. Mary's School Board approved moving forward with preschool plans at their last regular board meeting Jan. 9.
The principal said the tentative structure of the program will be three and four-year-old students attending Tuesday and Thursday mornings from approximately 8:30 a.m. * 11:30 a.m. Four and five-year-old students will attend Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Proposed tuition will be $50 a month for two days a week, and $75 for three days a week.
Tentative plans for the preschool include student drop-off concurrent with St. Mary's Schools' drop-off times. Also, a lunch program will be offered for students who need lunch before parents pick them up. If enough interest is shown, transportation to Gingerbread House may be provided for students at the end of the preschool session.
The school is currently advertising for a coordinator for the program.
