STORM LAKE - Jared Johnson finished with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Heath Glienke and Brad Bunjes scored 17 points apiece as Alta got past Storm Lake St. Mary's 66-61 in double overtime on Tuesday.
St. Mary's led 15-12 after the first quarter. Alta took a 27-20 halftime lead and a 38-36 lead after three quarters. It was tied at 49-all after regulation and 53-all after the first overtime.
Eric Holton added 11 points for the Cyclones. Glienke cleared eight rebounds and Bunjes six. Holton tallied eight assists and Jamie Hammer four.
Kyle Drey led St. Mary's with 21 points. Eric Wordekemper scored 20 and Joe Fitzgerald 13 for the Panthers, now 3-7.
Alta made 23 of 65 field goals for 35 percent. St. Mary's was 25 of 61 for 41 percent. Alta converted 17 of 22 free throws to 10 of 20 for St. Mary's.
"We didn't shoot as well as we normally do, but I thought our guys just hung in there and got after it defensively," Alta coach Larry McNutt said. "They made some big plays as did we."
"We had our opportunities to win and we didn't take advantage of them," St. Mary's coach Phil Skamser said. "We're very close to putting it together."
