Iowa Central Community College will name its gymnasium after Dr. John E. Hodges of Laurens in a special ceremony Saturday night, January 19, when the Triton men's and women's basketball teams play Kirkwood Community College.
The Triton gymnasium and surrounding area will be known as Dr. John E. Hodges Field House from that time forward. A dedication ceremony will take place during halftime of the women's game which starts at 5:30 p.m.
Hodges is a 32 year member of the Iowa Central Board of Trustees and has been instrumental in helping to oversee the tremendous growth of the Fort Dodge based school which serves the nine counties of Area V.
"I have witnessed mega changes over the years," said Hodges, who has been on the board for all but the first two years of the school's existence. "I have seen changes in philosophy and changes in the physical plant. We have really broadened the scope of our services."
Hodges has been a strong supporter of athletics over the years, hence the decision to name a sports facility in his honor. "When it comes to athletics, our first preference over the years has been to give opportunities to students in our nine-county area," Hodges said.
There will be a reception held following the game also to recognize Hodges and his efforts on behalf of Iowa Central.
