Former BV coach treated to a rout

STORM LAKE - Ed Timm's return to Buena Vista University wasn't a warm one.

Timm, who coached Buena Vista from 1994-96, watched his Cornell College team get thumped by the Beavers 96-56 in an Iowa Conference game on Saturday at Siebens Center.

Buena Vista shot 47 percent in the first half to build a 46-29 halftime lead, then made a blistering 66 percent of their shots in outscoring the Rams 53-30 in the second half.

For the game, Buena Vista made 35 of 62 field goals for 57 percent. Cornell was 20 of 69 for 29 percent. Buena Vista sank 13 of 23 3-point field goals to Cornell's 3 of 22.

Buena Vista received 28 points from Adam Jones and 14 apiece from Scott Weber and Robby Beyer. Jeremy Holmes added nine points.

Buena Vista outrebounded Cornell 50-31. Chris Petersen and Casey Pelzer each had six, while Jones, Beyer and Scott Swalley had five apiece.

Holmes handed out seven assists and Pelzer four. Holmes and Beyer charted two steals each for Buena Vista, now 5-0 in the league and 9-3 overall.

Buena Vista visits Dubuque and Loras this weekend.
