Buena Vista women, men blow out Coe

STORM LAKE - Adam Jones scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures to help lead Buena Vista to a 77-55 victory over Coe in a battle of unbeatens in the Iowa Conference on Friday night.

Buena Vista, now 4-0 in the league and 8-3 overall, sits alone atop the league standings.

Buena Vista shot 49 percent for the game, making 29 of 59 field goals. Coe was 23 of 57 for 40 percent.

Buena Vista trailed the Kohawks 22-17 before closing the first half with a 19-6 spurt to take a 36-28 lead at the break. The Beavers outscored Coe 41-27 in the second half.

Jeremy Holmes and Scott Weber each scored 11 points, while Robby Beyer added 10. Casey Pelzer chipped in nine.

Beyer collected nine rebounds and Chris Petersen eight. Rod Wiebers had five assists and Jones and Pelzer four each.

A big difference in the game was 3-point shooting. Buena Vista was 13 of 24 to Coe's 6 of 14.

‰ Allison Schultz scored 16 points to lead three players in double figures as Buena Vista routed Coe 91-62 in the women's game.

Buena Vista shot 56 percent in the game, hitting on 35 of 63 field goals. The Beavers were 17 of 28 for 61 percent in the second half.

Buena Vista held a 41-29 lead at the half and outscored the Kohawks 50-33 in the second half.

Amy Meggers scored 14 points and Julie Bloyer 12 for the Beavers. Kelli Taylor added nine.

Jessica Jensen contributed eight points, seven assists and six rebounds. Bloyer had six rebounds and Schultz five. Megan Holtorf charted six assists.

Buena Vista outrebounded Coe 44-30.

Both Buena Vista teams entertain Cornell tonight at Siebens Center.
