Tom Montag's farm memoir, Curlew:Home, will be read for half an hour each day on Iowa Public Radio starting in mid January.
The book is to be featured on the "Book Club" program of the WOI radio group.
A poet and essayist, Montag was born and raised on a farm a mile south of Curlew. Curlew:Home recounts his farm experiences as a youngster during the 1950s. It also records a trip Montag made back to Curlew in October, 2000.
The memoir is acknowledged as a tribute to a place most Americans only fly over - the middle west, and specifically rural Iowa. Booklist magazine says Curlew:Home is a "companionable and reverent memoir. "Creativity Connection urges: "Read this book. It will move you. You will never look at a field of corn the same way again."
Curlew:Home got the attention of Prairie Home Companion, which asked to post an excerpt from the book on its web site. "Her Most Perfect Day Ever" can be read at: www.prairiehome.org/ private_wobegon/montag_010915.shtml
The "Book Club" program can be heard Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. on WOI - FM 90.1 and KTPR-FM 91.1 AND AT 6:30 P.M. ON WOI-AM 640.
Curlew:Home is available from independent bookstores throughout northwest Iowa and from Amazon.com.
