SL Police win surveillance technology

Tuesday, December 18, 2001

The Storm Lake Police Department announces it is the recipient of a covert surveillance system from the United States Government via their Office of National Drug Control Policy Counterdrug Technology Assessment Center.

In August of this year the Police Department was advised that they would receive an $18,000 covert surveillance system through the program. Last week Detective Mark Johnson traveled to Phoenix, Arizona, where he received two days of training with the new equipment. The equipment was shipped to the Department on Friday, December 14.

This is the second time in two years that the Storm Lake Police Department received equipment through this Federal program. In December of 1999 the Department received a Thermal Imaging Unit.

Captain Bob Swanson has researched the program and is responsible for the applications.
