According to the Sac County Sheriff's Office, on Thursday evening at about 7:07 p.m. the Sac County Communication Center received a 911 call from 105 West South Ave. in Early. The caller requested assistance at the residence. The Early Police Department and Sac County Sheriff's Deputies responded along with Early Fire and Rescue.
Upon investigation, it was determined that two white males had entered the residence of Mike and Tracey Roberts, according to the sheriff's office. Tracey Roberts and her three children, ages 1, 3 and 11, were inside the residence. Her husband, Mike Roberts, was out of town on a business trip.
The two intruders assaulted Tracey Roberts, according to deputies. She was able to escape and secured a firearm. She discharged the weapon, fatally wounding one of the intruders. The other intruder fled the residence.
Tracey Roberts and her children were transported to Loring Hospital in Sac City by Sac County Ambulance. Tracey Roberts was treated and released for her injuries. The children were not injured.
Preliminary autopsy results were released Friday afternoon, and indicate Wehde died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. A final determination will be made when the final autopsy results are available along with the investigative reports and a review by the Sac County Attorney.
Police still seek information on the second intruder. He is described as a white male, 25 to 35 years old, and 5'10" to 6' tall, slender build with dark, wavy hair. The subject was wearing a black leather coat. The public is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency.
The case remains under investigation continues by the Early Police Department, Sac County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Assisting at the scene were troopers with the Iowa State Patrol.
