Iowa to play Texas Tech in Alamo Bowl game

Thursday, December 6, 2001

Both schools have changed coaches since then, Kirk Ferentz taking over for Hayden Fry at Iowa and Mike Leach replacing Spike Dykes at Texas Tech.

Leach brought in a ball-control passing game that's in sharp contrast to the ground-oriented offense that Dykes favored. Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury has averaged 48 passes a game in leading the Red Raiders to a 7-4 record.

Kingsbury has completed 365 of 529 passes for 3,502 yards and 25 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

Texas Tech has victories over Kansas State and Texas A&M. Its losses were to Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas.

"We are looking forward to a great football game with Iowa," Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said. "This game will be between two football programs on the rise."
