Man arrested on drug charges wanted for attempted murder
On the evening of Sunday, November 25, at approximately 11:50 p.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer while on patrol checked on an occupied vehicle sitting in Chautauqua Park.
One of the passengers was evasive with the officer's inquiries, and reportedly stated he had no identification. Police conducted a consent search of the vehicle and located two identification cards. Further checking determined that the subject who was being evasive was identified as Baldemar Sustaita, 23, of Edinburg, Texas.
Further investigation by police determined that Sustaita was wanted for Attempted Murder out of Hidalgo, Texas. Police arrested Sustaita without incident and found him to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Storm Lake Police transported Sustaita to the Buena Vista County Jail where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the jail on those drug charges and a hold on the Attempted Murder Warrant out of Texas.
Sustaita is being held without bond.
OWI suspect kicks an officer
On the evening of Friday, November 23, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the Storm Lake Police Department observed a vehicle at the rear of Malarky's Pub on Flindt Drive that had driven off of an embankment and became stuck.
As police approached they observed the driver attempt to get the vehicle free but the back wheels were off of the ground. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. A brief foot pursuit ensued, with officers catching the driver. When the subject was placed in the police car he became combative and kicked one of the officers.
The subject identified as Jesus Guillen, 23, of Storm Lake was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail. Storm Lake police charged Guillen with OWI, Assaulting a Police Officer, Reckless Driving and Public Intoxication.
Guillen was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on $4550 cash bond.
The Officer who was kicked was not injured.
Juvenile arrested on possession of paraphernalia
On the morning of Saturday, November 24, at approximately 4:12 a.m., the Storm Lake Police were dispatched to 609B West 9th Street in reference to loud music coming from a residence.
Police made contact with occupants. While on location a Police Officer observed a marijuana smoking device in plain view.
Police seized the device and charged a 17-year-old male of Newell with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The juvenile was processed and released to the custody of his mother.
The file has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
Two arrested after bar brawl
On the morning of Thursday, November 22 at approximately 1:51 a.m., Storm Lake Police Officers observed a fight in progress in the parking lot of the Malarky's Pub on Flindt Drive.
Police Officers intervened in the fight and took two subjects into custody without further incident.
Police charged both subjects with Public Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct.
The two subjects are identified as Viradet Bourommavong, 20, of Storm Lake, and Justin Banta, 20 of Cherokee. Both subjects were booked on $650 cash bond.
