Buena Vista wrestlers headlock Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY - You can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Al Baxter, the teacher, beat Andy Krueger, the pupil, as Buena Vista began its wrestling season with a 48-3 romp over Briar Cliff on Thursday night.

Krueger wrestled for Baxter at Buena Vista and is now the Chargers' first-year coach.

Aaron Loewens began the match for Buena Vista with a win by technical fall 21-5 at 157 pounds. The Beavers' Matt Doebel won by forfeit at 165.

Rick Delagardelle won by pin in 5:52 at 174 to make the score 17-0. George Gerdes followed up with a pin in 2:23 at 184.

Buena Vista's Adam Buthe won by major decision 12-2 at 197 and Dax Doran stuck his opponent in 1:30 at 285 to give the Beavers a 33-0 lead.

Jerod Harney won by forfeit at 125 and Mike Vagher was a winner by decision 8-7 to push the lead to 42-0. Taylor Wood closed out the match with a win by pin in 2:43 at 141 pounds.
