Storm Lake children recently took part in a "Jump for Relief" to raise funds for the disaster relief efforts in New York City. They sent drawings along for the families of the fallen firefighters.
Organizer Kaye Dornath received the following letter from the New York Fire Department in return.
DEAR FRIENDS:
Thank you for the drawings and letters from the children in your class. Please convey to them our gratitude for the concern and compassion they have shown to us in this difficult time.
We have received an outpouring of kindness from the children of America in such letters as those you sent and we have taken the letters and drawings to fire stations all over the city so that they can be displayed where firefighters can see them. We also placed as many pictures as would fit in the front window of our building so that other New Yorkers could see them as they pass by.
Again, please let the children know how much their kindness means to us.
Sincerely,
Uniformed Firefighters
