News vriefs concerning the Alta Community.

Public to "Meet the Cyclones" Tuesday night

Community members will be able to get their first glimpse of the Alta High School winter sports teams on Tuesday night, as the squads will participate in the "Meet the Cyclones" event.

The event attracted a large crowd last year, and booster club member Penny Payne said organizers are looking forward to similar enthusiasm from the community.

"We have high hopes for this," Payne said. "We probably served food to about 250 people before the activities in the gym last year, so we're hoping for a turnout like that again this year."

The teams will kick off their seasons at 5 p.m. in the Alta High School cafeteria Tuesday night with a $3 supper featuring maid-rites, chips, bars and pop.

"Meet the Cyclones" will then begin promptly at 7 p.m with introductions of the 2001-2002 boys and girls basketball teams, wrestlers, cheerleaders and their coaches.

The two basketball teams will then conduct 20-minute scrimmage after introductions.

The "Meet the Cyclones" event is free to the public.
