Funeral Services for Ivar Carlson, 91, of Aurelia, will be Friday November 9, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Jack O. Weida officiating.
Interment will be in the Holstein Cemetery, Holstein. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 - 8 p.m., at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Ivar died Tuesday, November 6, at the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia where he has been a resident since October 22.
Ivar Fritiof Carlson was born October 17, 1910, the son of Karl Johan Holmberg and Jenny Matilda (Johansdotter) Holmberg, in Odeshog, Sweden. Ivar attended school in Sweden, and at the age of 19 he immigrated to Aurelia. He later became a United States Citizen. On May 25, 1940 Ivar married Helen Harriet Ihms, at the Methodist church in Cherokee. He worked on farms in the Aurelia area then farmed on his own for 33 years. Helen and Ivar moved into town in 1972. He was a 60-year member of the IOOF Lodge, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. Ivar loved to play cards and square dance.
Preceding Ivar in death were his parents, his wife Helen on May 22, 2001, seven brothers, Carl, Gunnar and Oscar who lived in the United States, Edwin Erich, Einer and Holger who stayed in Sweden, and one sister, Signe who stayed in Sweden.
Survivors include a sister-in-law Wilma and her husband Dale Stieneke of Quimby, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
