Immerse yourself in the visual delights of life-sized puppets, and let the power of a simple storyteller draw you in, away from daily cares. Now in its 28th season, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia invites you to share in the excitement of the first-ever stage adaptation of Berkeley Breathed's Goodnight Opus, a humorous story that gives youngsters permission to depart from a book's text and give their imagination free rein.
Opus, a whimsical penguin (beloved hero of the Bloom County cartoon strip) embarks on a most unusual trip. When his granny falls asleep while reading the children's classic, Goodnight Moon, Opus and his friends board a flying bicycle, bound for the Milky Way to say goodnight to the stars in person. Along the way, they encounter an amazingly imaginative array of creatures - as you would expect from a cartoon creator. Parents who have read Goodnight Moon, for the umpteenth time will enjoy the clever take-off on the bedtime story and children will revel in the fancifui flight of the lovable penguin in his bunnyprint pajamas.
The production includes a mix of puppets and live performers disguised with theatrical black light technology. An original musical score by Scott Macmillan sets the mood for this unique theater adventure.
