"Storm Lake, Your Home for the Holidays!" will be the theme of this year's "Miracle on Lake Avenue" festivities on Monday, December 3rd from 6-8 p.m.
The annual event will start with a parade of lighted holiday floats down Lake Avenue at 6 p.m. The best non-commercial float will be awarded $100 in Storm Lake Bucks and the best commercial float will receive a promotional package from the following local newspapers and radio stations: Pilot Tribune, The Times, BV Ad Guide, KAYL and KKIA. Sign up at the Chamber of Commerce office.
Take a stroll through downtown Storm Lake and enjoy all the sights and sounds of Christmas including live holiday window scenes in business storefronts. There will be dancers, musicians, and carolers. Back by popular demand in Citizens Bank drive through will be a Nativity scene complete with live animals and actors presented by Lakeside Presbyterian Youth. This is something families will not want to miss!
Christmas Magic comes to life in the person of Father Christmas, the Spirit of Yuletide in full medieval regalia. Father Christmas stands nearly seven feet tall and draws large crowds wherever he appears. Watch for him, as he will make his way through the Storm Lake Chamber stores greeting the public with holiday wishes and the traditional "Father Christmas hug."
There will be no need to prepare dinner as the traditional supper of homemade chili, relish, and bars will be served from 5-8 p. m. at the Elk's Lodge. Proceeds go to the Elks National Scholarship Found-ation.
Santa's Castle will amaze everyone with new displays, decorations and restored characters. Thanks to hundreds of volunteer hours, there will be the old favorites in working order and lots of new ones for both children and adults.
The Castle is open from 6-8 evenings and 1-4 on weekends and will be a perfect stop-off before ending the evening. Special Thanksgiving Day opening day hours will be 1-4 on Thursday, November 22nd and 1-4 on Friday, November 23rd.
Santa's Workshop will be the newest attraction for downtown shoppers. Located in the former Picketts building there will be fresh baked cookies and hot chocolate. The night of Miracle on Lake Children will be able to decorate the cookies for themselves. Free-will donations will be appreciated. Enjoy the animated figurines on display in the store window and watch as volunteer's work on restoring even more characters to be used at Santa's Castle.
Carolers, children, horses and buggy rides, musicians, actors and others will also be performing on the sidewalks to make this spectacular evening special for you and your family.
Don't forget to treat yourself throughout the night to hot cider found at various warming stations, tasty funnel cakes and delicious kettle corn. There is still plenty of room for more novelty food vendors, parade entries and window displays. The Chamber encourages all to get involved and take part in this wonderful magical night. Reserve a spot by calling the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce Office at 732-3780.
