J. Craig and Nancy Fratzke, owners of the Fratzke Funeral Home, and Nathan A. and Nancy Jensen of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes today announced a merger of their businesses effective November 1, 2001.
Fratzke Funeral Home is one of the oldest family owned businesses in Storm Lake.
The new funeral home company will operate from the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home building located at 300 Cayuga Street in Storm Lake and will be known as the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Homes of Storm Lake, Newell and Schaller. The name change will not effect the Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes headquartered in Sac City with branches in Odebolt, Wall Lake and Lake View.
"Nancy and I are excited to join with Nathan and Nancy to work together to provide the very finest in funeral services to area families," said Fratzke. "Storm Lake has always been too small to support three separate funeral home facilities and it just makes good economic sense to merge our operations," said Jensen.
The Fratzkes moved to Storm Lake from Iowa City on November 1, 1990 to purchase the Hughes-Nelson Funeral Home from Dave and Muriel Nelson. The business was established in 1900 by H.L. Hughes, later operated by Morton & Kathryn Hughes and sold to the Nelsons in 1957.
The Jensens recently purchased the Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes from Arlin Otteman, Ronald Nelson and Roderick Sorensen. Mr. Otteman, who recently celebrated 62 years in funeral service will remain associated with the firm. Sorensen and Nelson will work out of the Sac City location in management positions with the funeral home.
Jensen, a Galva native, attended Buena Vista University and graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in Nashville. Before purchasing the Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes had been associated with the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. His wife, Nancy is a rehabilitation specialist with Sports Rehab & Professional Therapy Associates in Storm Lake and assists in the funeral home operation.
Fratzke, an Oelwein native, attended Upper Iowa College and graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1975. Prior to moving to Storm Lake he had been associated with the George L. Gay Funeral Home in Iowa City. Craig's wife, Nancy, will work full time at the funeral home. The Fratzkes have three sons, Darin and Amy, Des Moines, Daniel and Connie, Wilton, and David of Joplin, Mo., and three grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob and Emma.
