Buena Vista Genealogical Society met in the Genealogical Library on October 10, at 7 p.m. Twelve members and one guest were present.
Roll call question was: Do you know the exact date this society was organized? No one guessed the correct answer. The Society was organized on October 5, 1986. Officer's reports were read and discussed. The Library Committee is "reading" the shelves and setting them in order. We welcome donations to our collection but we are frustrated when the donor fails to leave his or her name. Therefore we cannot acknowledge the gift. Three of the members volunteered to work at the Buena Vista University's Health Fair, which was held on October 15. Our topic was "Inherited Health Problems." We answered questions and handed out brochures. There was some interest in the information.
The group voted to audit the books at the end of the current year and present the report at the February meeting of the new year. Also the monies given to the incoming treasurer in January and the report given in February. All of which should simplify the duties of the new officers. Nominating committee was appointed. Dues are also due at the November meeting. Hosts for the November meeting are Carol and Shirley Johnson.
The program was presented by Marjorie Miller. She gave an interesting account on the "Iowa State Society of Colonial Dames XVII." Membership is comprised of descendants of this country's earliest land owners and public office holders.
Anyone interested in Genealogy is welcome to attend the meetings and take part in a fascinating hobby.
