Knights raise nearly $6,000 for mentally disabled programs

Tuesday, November 6, 2001

The Storm Lake Council of the Knights of Columbus (K.C. Council #2236) has released its net profit figures from the mentally handicapped drive from the Labor Day weekend.

The K.C.'s raised a net profit of $5,818.16 from their activities, which included TootsieRoll donations, a mailing campaign to local businesses, personal contacts with local businesses, car show registrations, cars show walk-in donations, and food booth stand concessions.

Ten percent of the net profit was distributed to the State of Iowa Special Olympics, as has been the case for the last several years. (Last year alone, the K.C.s across Iowa donated approximately $25,000 to the Iowa Special Olympics.)

On November 12, the remainder of the net profit from the local drive will be distributed equally to the following organizations benefiting the mentally handicapped: Lutheran Social Services, Special Olympics, Special Education, Genesis Development and Faith, Hope and Charity.

The Knights would again like to thank Storm Lake businesses and individuals for contributing to this worthy cause and enjoying the festivities during Labor Day.

Aside from the mentally handicapped drive, the Storm Lake Knights are involved in many other charitable community efforts.
