Raymond H. Kruse, 90 of Calumet, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee.

Funeral services were yesterday at the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet. Rev. Fred Moore officiated and interment was in the Liberty Township Cemetery in Calumet.

Raymond Herman Kruse was born on May 2, 1911, in Cherokee County. He is the son of Herman and Amanda Wiese Kruse. He received his education in Calumet Public School.

On Feb. 22, 1939, he was united in marriage to Mildred Steffen in Paulina. They were the parents to four children, Beverly, Gary, Bill and Randy.

The couple farmed in O'Brien County for many years before moving to Calumet in 1977.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet where he was a life-long member, and had also served on the church board. He was also a member of the Calumet Community Club. Ray enjoyed fishing, playing cards and visiting with his family and many friends.

Ray is survived by his wife Mildred of Calumet; one daughter, Beverly and her husband Fran Nieman of Orange City; two sons, Gary and his wife Maureen Kruse of Calumet, and Bill and his wife Joan of Storm Lake; as well as nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Randy, parents, and two brothers, Willie and Carl.
