Renowned author Richard Stack to make appearance at Sioux Central school Nov. 5

Thursday, November 1, 2001

Richard Lynn Stack is renowned for his dynamic school presentations and his marvelous ability to relate to children.

He has visited and presented at over 2,000 schools nationwide. His dog, Recess, is part of the program, but this is no animal act. Stack's talk, while light and entertaining, encourages self-esteem and the pursuit of dreams without preaching. The kids get to interact at the assembly and even let off a little steam.

Stack covers a variety of subjects, including how he became an author, his presentation for writing for children, the rewriting process, and Josh's (Stack's first wonder dog) journey from common mutt to superstar. Stack explains how Josh was succeeded by Recess and his ambitious plans for his new best friend.

Richard devotes an entire day to the school, so students identify with him not as a "celebrity," but a real person. During lunch, Stack has personal contact with the students, spending a few minutes at each table.

Who let the dogs out? Richard Lynn Stack did. His titles include "The Doggonest Christmas," "The Doggonest Vacation," "The Doggonest Puppy Love," and "Josh, The Story of Wonder Dog," all on the accelerated reader list. His latest book, "Steamer and Shelly Go to Pot," is due out in October of 2001.

Stack's books, which teach valuable lessons in self-esteem and the pursuit of dreams, are available for purchase for anyone interested. Stack's books are hard-cover books and are beautifully-illustrated in full color and measure 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

All purchased books will be autographed, personalized, and hand-stamped with Josh's official "paw print."

Stack wishes to spend a full day at the school visiting students in and outside the classroom, therefore he will not autograph books during school. He will autograph books after school and books will be delivered to students the next day.

If parents wish to purchase Stack's books for Christmas, please write "Gift" next to the title of the book and gift items will be set aside and will be available for pick-up at the school library. Please contact Paulette McCall at 283-2571 if you have any questions.

On Nov. 5, Sioux Central Community School will host a visit by Stack. His assembly will begin at 9 a.m. in the Sioux Central Gymnasium for grades preschool through eighth grade. The public is invited to attend. In the evening, Stack will be the guest during Family Reading Night, which is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Nov. 5.
