HAWARDEN - David Winkler finished eighth overall and Caleb Ehlers placed 11th to help LM-ACT advance to the state cross country meet by placing third at a district meet last Thursday in Hawarden.
West Sioux won the meet, followed by LeMars Gehlen and LM-ACT. The top three teams advance to state, which will be held this Saturday in Fort Dodge.
Winkler posted a time of 17 minutes, 12 seconds, while Ehlers finished in 17:17. Kyle Hart was 21st with a time of 17:45, John Hopkins 25th in 17:54, Josh Wilkening 30th in 18:01, Bjorn Johnson 41st in 18:28 and Todd Reese placed 42nd with a time of 18:29.
"It was a great accomplishment for this group of seven seniors as they have invested a lot of work toward making this happen," LM-ACT coach John Jamison said. "We really had a balanced effort with only 44 seconds separating our first and fifth runner."
"I think we have the opportunity to run really well at the state meet," Jamison added. "This team has always shown the ability to run well at big meets. These seniors have the chance to do it again in the last race of their high school careers."
Carmen Moss qualified for the girls state meet as an individual after finishing fifth overall with a time of 12:39.
"She ran a great race," Jamison said. "She just really went after it in this race. You could tell from the start that she would not be denied a state berth."
Tracy Snow finished 14th for LM-ACT with a time of 13:15. Tiffany Dallenbach was 29th in 13:46, Christy Moss 57th in 14:41, Angela Thomas 77th in 15:25 and Marie Mather placed 86th with a time of 15:54.
LM-ACT finished fifth in the team standings. West Sioux, Pocahontas and LeMars Gehlen all qualified for state in the team competition.
