Helen M. Lease, age 81, of Northwood, formerly of Storm Lake, died Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 20, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Pastor Henry Kuhn officiating. Burial was in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.
Helen Margurite Lease was born May 21, 1920 in Silver Township, Cherokee County, the daughter of Anton and Helga (Steele) Hanson. Helen was baptized on July 21, 1920 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cherokee and confirmed on June 12, 1955 at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. She graduated from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1938. Following graduation she worked for Jantzen's Department Store in Storm Lake.
Helen was united in marriage to Al Lease on June 23, 1940 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Cherokee. The couple lived in Cherokee until Al left for the service. Following his return they moved to Storm Lake in 1946.
She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church and dedicated her life to helping others. She will be remembered as faithfully serving her family as wife, mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband Al, Northwood; a son Craig Lease and his wife, Phyllis, Northwood; a daughter Karen Braesch and her husband, Tom, Prior Lake, MN; five grandsons, Travis (Anne Marie) Lease, Port St. Lucie, FL, Brian (Becky) Lease, LaCrosse, WI, Matthew (Melissa) Braesch, Sheboygan, WI, Jason (Tracy) Braesch, Prior Lake, MN and Jeff (Joan) Braesch, Burnsville, MN.
Also surviving are three great granddaughters, Arianna Kersten, and Alexis and Haley Braesch, and other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Glenn, and a nephew Dennis.
