Red Ribbon Week is a chance to be visible and vocal in the desire for a drug free community. The dates for this year's Red Ribbon Week in the Storm Lake Schools are: October 23-31.
This event is a grassroots organization of parents concerned about the destruction caused by alcohol and drug abuse.
The red ribbon was adopted as a symbol of the movement in honor of Enrique Camarena, an agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, who was kidnapped and killed while investigation drug traffickers.
Students throughout Storm Lake Community School District will be asked to wear red in support of Red Ribbon Week on Thursday, October 25. Parents and friends are also encouraged to wear red to show their opposition to substance use and abuse.
