Dollars for Scholars would like to encourage area residents to make contributions to its scholarship program in memory of deceased family members or friends.
Such contributions go directly into the Dollars for Scholars trust fund. Interest from this fund is given each year in the form of scholarships, to the graduates of Storm Lake and Storm Lake St. Mary's High Schools. Last year, the following memorial contributions were given to the Storm Lake Chapter of Dollars for Scholars: Tony and Marilee Bedel in Memory of Julia Jackson; Boyd and Dottie Cammack in memory of Irene Culbertson and Phil Thornton; Willard and Florence Christensen in memory of Gail Adams Nichols, Kim Behrens, Mary Lou McGowan, Rose Wattier and Richard Arndt; Combined Contributors in memory of Merle Kahuda; Dennis Freeman in Memory of Kim Behrens and Richard Euchner; Bill and Mary Lanphere in memory of Don Burmeister and Lois Richter; Pat and Julia Mooney in memory of Merle Kahuda; Elaine and Donald Neely in memory of Merle Kahuda; Steve and Sheila Neuroth in memory of Denny Moriarty, Harry Schaller, Irene Culbertson, Jeff Brashears and Lisa Sharp; Virgil and Phyllis Runge in memory of Merle Kahuda; Mel and Clara Samuelson in memory of Evelyn Block. An additional contribution was made by Boyd and Dottie Cammack to celebrate the Epting/ Havenkamp marriage.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Dollars for Scholars, 119 West 6th Street, Storm Lake, Iowa 50588. An acknowledgment of each contribution will be sent to the family of the deceased.
It is also possible to establish a specific scholarship in memory of a certain individual, to be given annually to a graduating senior.
The dollar amount for such a designated scholarship begins at $300. Through these contributions, Dollars for Scholars has awarded the following recent memorial scholarships: $500 - Lucile Buntrock Memorial Scholarship; $500 - Kristen Kelly Zoucha Catholic Leader Memorial Scholarship; $500 - Jean Hamilton Memorial Scholarship; $400 - Bill Bates Memorial Scholarship.
