The Buena Vista University National Alumni Association recognized Richard Utter of Storm Lake as this year's recipient of the Henry Olson Distinguished Service Award at the Homecoming celebrations on Saturday, October 5.
Utter was honored formally during the Alumni Recognition and Cornerstone Guard Luncheon and also during halftime at the homecoming football fame.
Utter played football and basketball, was president of the letterman's Club, and served on the student council. After graduation in 1950 with a degree in physical education, he was a high school teacher and coached football and basketball for five years. In 1970 he joined Buena Vista Abstract and Mortgage Company, where he served as president until his retirement in 1998.
Utter has been a dedicated supporter of BVU since his graduation. He is a member of the Order of the Arch, chairs the BVU Athletic Hall of Fame committee and has been the home football clock operator for more than 30 years. His late mother, Genevieve, was a 1918 graduate of BVC, and his son Randy is a 1997 BVU graduate.
