Arlin Otteman, Ronald Nelson and Roderick Sorensen, partners in Farber & Otteman Funeral Homes, Inc., Storm Lake, Sac City, Schaller, Wall Lake, Lake View, Odebolt, and Newell, announced the sale of their funeral business to Galva native Nathan A. Jensen and his wife, Nancy, of Storm Lake.
Jensen received his AA degree from Waldorf College in Forest City, attended Buena Vista University and graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in Nashville.
For the last two years, he has been associated with the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. His wife, Nancy is a Holstein native. She currently is a rehabilitation specialist with Sports Rehab in Storm Lake and will assist in the funeral home operation.
"Nancy and I are pleased to have the opportunity to continue to serve the families of Sac, Buena Vista and Ida Counties with the same level of dedication and caring service they have grown to appreciate over the past 60-plus years," said Jensen. "We do not anticipate any immediate changes in our staff of 24 full and part-time employees."
Mr. Otteman, who recently celebrated 62 years in funeral service, will continue to be associated with the funeral homes. Nelson and Sorensen will continue to work with the Jensens in management.
The original Farber & Otteman Funeral Home business was established in 1943 when Mr. Otteman and Charles L. Farber purchased the Neal Funeral Home of Sac City from their employer, A.G. Neal. In the years from 1943 until Mr. Farber's retirement in 1964 the six additional funeral home locations and the Farber & Otteman Monument Company were added.
In 1980, a corporation was established which included Otteman, Nelson, Sorensen and J. Richard Seger as officers and partners. Mr. Seger and his wife, Marvel retired in 1999.
