Memorial services for Bart L. Neel, 87, of Aurelia, will be Friday, October 12, at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Jack O. Weida officiating.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Military Honors will be conducted by the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m., at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. A memorial fund has been established.
Bart Died Tuesday, October 9, at the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia.
Bart Lord Neel was born December 17, 1913, the son of Barnett L. and Bonnie L. (Lord) Neel, in Promise City, Iowa. Bart attended schools in Colorado and Oregon and graduated from high school in 1931. Bart entered the US Army on January 9, 1943, and was honorably discharged on February 13, 1946. On October 18, 1962, Bart married Mable Riecke at the Lutheran Church in Spencer. They made their home in Aurelia. Bart farmed, was an appliance repairman, drove a gas truck, and was a school bus driver for many years. He assisted at the Wharton and later the Wharton-Redig Funeral Home for about 30 years, he also drove for Sleezer Select Stock for several years. Bart was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390, and a past member of the Aurelia Kiwanis. He loved to dance, play cards, fishing and golf.
Preceding Bart in death were his parents, and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Neel.
Survivors include his wife Mable Neel of Aurelia, one son, John and his wife Sharon Neel of Riverton, Wyoming, one daughter, Josephine Brouwer of Des Moines, three grandchildren, Brad and Sarah Neel and Jason Brouwer, one brother, John L. Neel of Riverton, and many friends.
