SL Chamber already deep into the holiday spirit

Although the leaves have barely started to fall, the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce is already deep into the holiday spirit.

"We would like to beef up the whole holiday attitude in Storm Lake this year, so we have to get working at it early," said chamber CEO Chris Nolte.

Plans are being feverishly prepared for the Miracle on Lake Avenue event, scheduled for December 10 this year. Nolte hints that there may be announcements soon about special music and a new reception to be added to the annual event.

Volunteers have already been working hard to update the Santa's Castle exhibit of holiday animation. A fund drive will be formally announced soon to help with restoration of the priceless collection of animation dating from the 1920s to the 1950s. Four Buena Vista University students have joined the chamber in the fundraising effort. Santa's Castle opens on Thanksgiving Day each year.

The chamber is negotiating to obtain a prime location that will be turned into Santa's Workshop for the coming season. There, volunteers will be able to gather to work on the animation and other projects for the city's holiday celebrations. Again, an announcement is expected in the near future.
