Kestel, Blanchard, relay finish first for SL swimmers

Thursday, October 4, 2001

BOONE - Megan Kestel finished first in two events, Billie Blanchard was first in one, and a relay team was also victorious, but it wasn't enough as Boone handed Storm Lake a 57-44 setback in a double dual swim meet on Tuesday at Boone.

Carroll defeated Storm Lake 69-25 in the other dual.

Kestel won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 17.17 seconds and took the 500 freestyle in 6:08.82. Blanchard won the 50 freestyle in a time of 28.21 seconds. The 200 freestyle relay unit of Blanchard, Amber Griffin, Emily Holliday and Kelly Schultz placed first with a time of 1:54.91.

Finishing second were Schultz in the 50 freestyle with a time of 28.45 seconds, Jessica Anderson in the 100 butterfly in 1:19.88, Sybil Reinert in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.34, Kayla Snow in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:14.25 and Griffin in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:22.85. The 200 medley relay of Snow, Griffin, Anderson and Blanchard was second in 2:12.31, as was the 400 freestyle tandem of Kestel, Holliday, Reinert and Snow in a time of 4:17.21.

Placing third were Megan Bishop in the 200 individual medley in 2:51.15, Reinert in the 100 backstroke in 1:16.06, the 200 freestyle relay in 2:01.61, and the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:35.24.

"Most of our times did not improve," Storm Lake coach Deb Blanchard said. "I think the extra time and yardage from the early morning practices was very evident from the time drops during the last several meets. We'll be adding a few more mornings and then start looking to taper and finish the season with great time drops."

Storm Lake will host Spencer and Estherville/Algona on Monday for Parents Night. The meet begins at 6:30 p.m.
