ALTA - Alta won all three of its matches to win the Alta Invitational on Saturday.
The Cyclones defeated Sac City, Sioux Central and Graettinger in the tourney.
Ashlea Payne led Alta in hitting, going 33-for-41 with 19 kills on the day. Greta Lichtenberg was 24-for-25 with eight kills, Casi Flink 25-for-30 with eight kills and Jaime Parkhurst 31-for-36 with 12 kills.
Jess Garrison went 25-for-25 in serving, while Brooke Ryherd was 16-for-16. Payne went 24-for-25 with four aces, Flink was 24-for-26 with three aces, Shandra Walker 36-for-39 with six aces, and Amy Demers was 12-for-12.
Payne charted 19 set assists and Demers 15. Garrison tallied 11 digs, Ryherd 10, Walker eight and Flink seven. Lichtenberg and Parkhurst each had three blocks for Alta, now 7-6 overall.
"I was pleased with our overall play," Alta coach Jeannie Henningsen said. "We won all three matches by playing good fundamental volleyball. I think we are really starting to gel as a team. We need to finish out the conference race strong and then get focused on tournaments."
Storm Lake dropped three matches in the Estherville Invitational on Saturday.
The Tornadoes fell to George-Little Rock 15-5, 15-4; to Humboldt 15-8, 15-7; and to Emmetsburg 15-6, 15-5.
Storm Lake will host its own invitational this Saturday at the Storm Lake Middle School Gym.
The Tornadoes will play Cherokee at 9 a.m., Emmetsburg at 10:30 a.m., Sioux City North at 11:15 a.m., Spirit Lake at 12:45 p.m. and Estherville at 1:30 p.m.
The championship and consolation matches are scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
