Funeral services were held Monday for Jesse Henry Young, 89, Shell Rock, at the First Baptist Church of Shell Rock. Pastor Bob Chambers officiated.
Mr. Young passed away Sept. 20, 2001, at Waverly Municipal Hospital.
He was born to Charles Caul and Lulu Belle (Manzer) Young in Parkersburg. He married Ruth Miller on February 24, 1934, in Waterloo. They lived in the Shell Rock area all of their married lives. Jesse farmed from 1936-1973, also working at a canning factory in the 1950s. In 1973, he retired from farming and the couple moved into Shell Rock, where he was employed part-time at Osweiler Hardware. He enjoyed spending time at the sale barn, going for coffee with friends, and being around horses.
Survivors include his wife Ruth; three children, Richard Young and wife Betty of Waverly, Darrell Young and wife Patricia of Shell Rock, and Linda Boomer and husband Larry of New Hartford; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; brother Louis Young and his wife Catherine of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law Jesse Conrad, Cedar Falls and Regina Young, Storm Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Laura Stitt, Grace Walls and Donna Conrad; brothers Earl, Jason, Dale and Delbert Young; and two grandchildren.
Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery, Shell Rock.
