Robert Wittrock Sr.

Robert William Wittrock Sr., 79, of Holstein passed away September 26, 2001, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, following a difficult battle with cancer.

Services were October 1, at The United Methodist Church in Holstein, with Rev. Judith Piper officiating. Burial is in the Holstein Cemetery.

Robert was born June 3, 1922 in Logan Township on the homestead farm south of Holstein. He was the only son of William and Edna (Schnare) Wittrock. He graduated from high school in 1941. Robert started farming with his father in his young adult years and continued to be engaged in farming until 1965. Robert then started to work for Boothby Plumbing and Heating until retirement in 1984. Since retirement, Robert and his wife Dorothy cared for the grounds at the Holstein Cemetery until 1994. From 1994 until present, both worked with custodial services at VT Industries in Holstein.

Robert was baptized into the Methodist faith in 1953 and confirmed.

On June 12, 1945, he married Dorothy Mae Lenz at the Methodist parsonage in Cherokee. They made their home on a farm south of Holstein.

Robert's interests included farming, woodworking, gardening, baking, and spending time with family.

He is survived by Karen Ann Gibbins of Grandview, Moo., Linda Sue Reincke and husband Leslie Jr. of Denison, Robert Wittrock Jr. and wife Luann of Cherokee, Richard Lee Wittrock and wife Wilma of Holstein, and Diane Delores Scott and husband of Dave of Holstein.

Robert enjoyed his grandchildren; Captain Walter Dean Gibbins of Montgomery, Ala., Jill Jeannine Gibbins of Lees Summitt, Mo., Keith Alan Reincke of Denison, Kevin Leslie Rencke of Carroll, Jarod William Wittrock of Iowa City, Michael Robert Wittrock of Cherokee, Katie Jo Wittrock of Cherokee, Jacob Lee Wittrock of Cedar Rapids, Christie Luella Kennedy of Cherokee, Shelley Diane Scott of Holstein, Stephanie Ann Scott of Galva, and Shawn David Scott of Ames. He also enjoyed his great grandchildren, Austin, Catherine and Ryan.

He also leaves to mourn, wife Dorothy of Holstein, sister Betty Jean Myers and husband Edward of Colfax, Wis., sister Mary Jo Eppling and husband Ervin of River Falls Wis., sister in law, Delores June Todd and husband Donald of Quimby, sister in law, Nancy Crouch and husband Gary of Washta, and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Sandra.
