A Pocahontas County Ethanol Day event has been selected to represent Iowa in the American Farm Bureau Federation's program exchange competition.
It is one of five county Farm Bureau ideas from Iowa that will advance to the national competition.
The Pocahontas County Farm Bureau held a countywide ethanol day to promote its usage, dispel any misconceptions about negative effects on car performance and increase its market share. All 13 gas stations in the county offered a 10-cent discount on ethanol, with funding to cover the discount provided by the local Farm Bureau and Iowa Corn Promotion Board. State Senator Mary Lou Freeman and Governor Tom Vilsack were "guest pumpers." Over 1,200 people purchased ethanol, consuming over 16,100 gallons in a single four-hour period.
