Knights slip past Wildcats in key tilt

Monday, September 24, 2001

EARLY - Kevin Krausman rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown to help lead Pomeroy-Palmer to a 15-6 victory over Schaller-Crestland in a Class A, District 1 game Friday night at Early.

Schaller-Crestland was done in by mistakes at the wrong time.

"Inopportune mistakes proved to be the difference," Wildcats coach Dale Tokheim said. "We had a 60-yard touchdown called back because of a penalty. I made a bad call on fourth-and-inches and they stuffed us. When they stopped us, they had the momentum and drove it down our throats."

"It was a great game. My kids played hard. We have to regroup and play the role of spoiler."

Kelly Rydberg rushed for 116 yards on 29 carries for the Wildcats, now 2-2 overall.

The Knights also got a 3-yard TD run from Alex Poppen.

Schaller-Crestland scored on a 32-yard pass from Kevin Drake to Calvin Kluver.

Dave Bloyer led the defensive effort with 14 tackles. Rydberg had 13 and Evan Johnson eight.
