SHELDON - After two second-place finishes and tieing for first this season, Tim Brink made it to the top by himself.
The Storm Lake senior won his first outright race of the season and second of his career as he led the pack of 100 runners at the Sheldon Invitational.
Brink's performance helped Storm Lake finish sixth in the team standings with 202 points. Spencer was the winner with 96.
Brink posted a time of 15 minutes, 34 seconds. His first career victory camet at the Spencer Invitational last year.
Storm Lake ran the race without its No. 2 runner, Marco Merle, who was ill. Chuck Stark picked up the slack, finishing 37th with a time of 16:59 to earn a medal. Brandon Ebersole also medaled, placing 48th in 17:10.
Mike Solem was 51st in a time of 17:11, Jeff Langner 65th in 17:38, Brandon Brock 79th in 18:14 and Erik Borke 84th in a time of 18:19.
"The boys really ran well," Storm Lake coach John Brostad said. "They knew they had to crank it up a notch without Marco. Sixth place out of 15 teams was an excellent finish."
Adam Sievers placed 27th in the junior varsity race in 18:12. Brady North was 37th in 18:31, Tyler Radke 48th in 19:00 and Renato Sisalema 75th in 19:49.
Lisa Bowman finished 23rd overall out of 106 runners to lead Storm Lake to a 13th-place finish. Estherville placed first.
Bowman posted a time of 12:11 to earn a medal. Casey Jennett was 66th in a time of 13:06, Abby Lorenzen 76th in 13:29, Robyn Kruse 87th in 13:51, Heather Henrich 96th in 14:36, Alison Douglas 99th in 14:38 and Kayla Gutz was 104th in a time of 14:51.
Kiley Stavnes paced the JV team, placing 74th in 15:00. Christina Brink was 83rd in 15:15, Amy Wulfekuhler 89th in 15:24, Katia Barragan 103rd in 16:14 and Emma Fikkert placed 127th in 20:04.
