Twenty three people came to the first meeting of the new Civil Air Patrol unit organizing in Storm Lake.
Squadron commander, Capt. Doug Jansen, Chaplain Jack Barber, and Sgt. Kern L. Kemp spoke to prospective senior and cadet members at the Storm Lake Airport Monday night. Topics included CAP's three missions: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs. A regular meeting day and time were also discussed.
Civil Air Patrol will meet Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the Storm Lake Airport in the old terminal building. The public is welcome to attend. Membership is open to all twelve years old and up. Cadets range in age from twelve years old (or in the sixth grade) to eighteen. Adults can join as senior members.
The Municipal Airport Board and Airport Manager have been supportive and are providing a facility for the organization to use. The CAP squadron in Ames has been involved also, and will continue to provide assistance and training to new members in Storm Lake.
"Our thanks also to the local media for promoting public awareness of the Civil Air Patrol," Jansen said.
