After months of waiting, Arnolds Park Amusement Park patrons were surprised to find Boji Falls open for Labor Day weekend.
"We opened the ride on Saturday at about two," said Cary Parker, Arnolds Park Amusement Park General Manager. "We were hoping we could open it on Saturday, but I was hesitant to publicize it just in case the plan fell through."
But, this time plans for the ride's opening went according to schedule and the Boji Falls was operational for the holiday weekend.
"We got it open on Saturday and ran it on Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday," Parker said. "The weekend was fantastic."
According to Parker, Boji Falls will be running each weekend through the end of the season.
"We're holding sneak peak weekends through September with the log flume." Parker said. "Then patrons can come and at least experience the ride."
Next year, Arnolds Park will open the season with a grand opening for the ride.
But Parker pointed out that although Boji Falls is mechanically operational, much of the ride's appearance will change before next season.
"Cosmetically, the ride is not where we want it to be," Parker said. "We still have quite a bit of the construction debris around the perimeter. We need to gel coat the fiberglass trough, and we want to do some landscaping."
The work is scheduled to be completed before the grand opening next season.
"Besides being fun, then it'll be pretty," Parker said.
Arnolds Park is open weekends through the end of September. The park is open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
