Veteran board member wins new seat in landslide with nearly 100 percent of Alta vote.
Incumbent school board president Wes Holmes easily kept his seat Tuesday night, garnering 48 of 50 votes to retain the position for three more years.
Holmes, who has served on the Alta school board for nine years, has been president of the association for the past two years.
"I'm happy and excited about being able to serve again," Holmes said. "I'm looking forward to the next three years as a member of the school board."
Running unopposed throughout the campaign, Holmes captured 96 percent of the ballots, with just two write-in votes preventing him from winning the seat unanimously.
Holmes, who farms just outside of Alta, has been either president or vice-president of the group for five of his nine years on the board.
He said he wanted to express his gratitude to all the voters who cast their ballots for him Tuesday evening.
"I really appreciate the support of those who came out and voted for me," Holmes said. "It means a lot to me, and I want to thank all of those people very much."
