Schaller-Crestland rolls past Kingsley-Pierson

KINGSLEY - Kelly Rydberg rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns, and Schaller-Crestland's defense held Kingsley-Pierson to just 61 yards rushing to help the Wildcats roll to a 32-0 victory over the Panthers in a Class A District 1 game on Friday night at Kingsley.

Kingsley-Pierson was held to just 102 yards in total offense - 61 on the ground an 41 in the air. Rydberg and Branden Scadden led the Wildcats on defense with six tackles apiece. Dave Bloyer added five.

Rydberg opened the scoring for Schaller-Crestland with a 4-yard TD run. He then scored on a 1-yard plunge to make it 12-0 in the first quarter.

Quarterback Kevin Drake then scored on a 1-yard keeper in the second quarter. Felipe Walther's extra point made it 19-0 Wildcats.

Schaller-Crestland scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to break it open. Drake threw a 6-yard TD pass to Calvin Kluver and Justin Witzke intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for the score.

Rydberg finished with 134 yards on 34 carries. Tom Sippel netted 71 yards on 10 carries. Witzke had 26 yards on five attempts.

"The defense played a very good game," Schaller-Crestland coach Dale Tokheim said. "We were very happy with the shutout. Offensively, we were very happy with the performance of the offensive line. They did a good job of executing their blocks."

Schaller-Crestland is now 2-1 overall. Kingsley-Pierson is now 0-3 overall.
